PROCAP

 

This module aims to familiarise students with the Quantity Surveying duties listed in the South African Institute of Architects' Procedural Guide for Clients, Architects and Other Professionals (PROCAP) which is used by the School of Architecture, Planning and Geomatics during the Simulated Office Project in second semester.

Engineering and Built Environment Professional Fees

 

This module covers the calcuation of professional fees for the Quantity Surveyor, Architect and Consulting Engineers.

The Commission Stage

 

This module looks at how quantity surveyors are traditionally appointed to perform quantity surveying services: types of clients, types of appointments, letter of appointment. The documentation which supplements this module is the ASAQS Guide to QS Appointments, Client-QS Agreement, Client-Consultant Agreement and the Strategic Planning document.

The Quantity Surveying Profession

 

This module introduces students to the QS Act (49 of 2000) which governs the Quantity Surveying Profession. Professional bodies relevant to the Quantity Surveying Profession locally and internationally will be discussed: The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP), Association of the South African Quantity Surveying (ASAQS) and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The route to registration as a Professional Quantity Surveyor (APC) and the upkeep of professional registration (CPD) will also be looked at. Other EBE Consultants and their professional bodies will also be looked at.

This module covers the typical duties a professional quantity surveyor performs during the pre-contract stage of a project.

The Tender Stage

 

This module covers the typical duties a professional quantity surveyor performs during the tender stage of a project.

This module covers the typical duties a professional quantity surveyor performs during the contract stage of a project.

This module covers the typical duties a professional quantity surveyor performs during the final account stage of a project.

The End

 

This is a brief conclusion of the Professional Practice Course and how and what I feel it has been able to demonstrate in terms of what is considered 'good practice' among Professional Quantity Surveyors.
